Spring Newsletter 2016

Spring 2016

Hello Travellers,

Hoorah – its Spring!  Winter wasn’t so bad was it? Probably not for most of you that were travelling around the northern hemisphere, or our snow bunnies that hit the slopes!   We have included some photos from some of our lucky clients’ recent travels below. Thank you for sending them in, we love seeing your holiday snaps – keep them coming!

We hope you all enjoyed watching the Olympics in Rio and seeing some of the spectacular back drops of the outdoor events.   Now we are in the midst of the Paralympics and one of our very own clients, and a friend of mine, Madeleine Hogan is competing in the Javelin on the 13th September.  Keep a look out for her and GO MADDY!

I have just returned home from ten peaceful days in Fiji.   I stayed at the Radisson Denarau and the Intercontinental Natadola and have written a little bit about it here.    Sam enjoyed his first overseas holiday and seemed to like being whisked away by the friendly Fijian staff, including the airport security who thought he would like to watch the x-ray monitor while we all hauled through the scanner!

Next to head off is Robyn.   She is off to sunny Mauritius for her sister’s wedding later this month. We will report back in the summer newsletter about her trip; I think there are a few fun activities instore for the wedding party.

I still can’t convince Jannene to go on a holiday but the glimmer of Coolum Beach is calling the whole family in December.

A reminder that there is a public holiday on the 30th September for some football match and also Melbourne Cup on the 1st November.  Then it’s Summer and Christmas and another year over!  As we always say, if you are planning on travelling over the Summer please book as early as you can.   Australia really is the best place to be at this time of year!  Remember we do still book domestic holidays and our suppliers usually have great rates and packages for most major destinations.   If you find yourself booking some of those cheap Jetstar flights please let us know if we can help you with accommodation, insurance, transfers & sightseeing to complete your holiday plans.

Earlybird airfares for Europe will be coming soon and it really is a great time to book your airfares to secure a good price for the peak times of travel. If you would like be on our Earlybird list please just let your consultant know.   Also a lot of the European River Cruising is already open for bookings as far ahead as 2018 so now is the time to secure the best cabins.

You may have seen the recent fares with Scoot to Athens for some crazy prices. Whilst we love that there is another airline flying to Athens, we are always hesitant to recommend the budget carriers.   The main reason for this is because we don’t get support from these airlines making it very hard to help you in emergencies.    Also we find by the time you add on all the extras, essential things such as luggage, meals, entertainment etc, you are probably better off with a full service airline, especially if you jump on the earlybird fares!

Back in friendly old East Ivanhoe, it’s lovely to see some new businesses opening up. Check out the East Ivanhoe Village Facebook page for the latest information.  We wish all the new businesses great success in their new ventures and welcome them to the village.

You may have seen recent news reports about credit card surcharging.   Please know we follow all the guidelines and charge a flat 2% fee for all cards. This covers the cost of the merchant fees charged to us and associated costs with being a merchant.  We will always try our best to keep surcharging to a minimum and advise the best way to use your card wisely.   Please know we never make a profit from surcharging and we detest it just as much as you do!

I am continuing to work from home and come into the office when I can. As soon as childcare starts I will be back in the office on a more permanent basis and look forward to seeing all our lovely clients again!

I think that is about all that’s going on in our world this quarter, below are our regular sections for your enjoyment.

Be sure to follow us on social media via the links below for up to date information, inspiration and a bit of fun.

Until next time we wish you safe and happy travels

TRAVELLING TIPS

#1 – Check out the Smart Traveller Website
http://smartraveller.gov.au/

#2 Learn how to say “no thank you”. Most travel advice columns will tell you to learn how to say “hello”,  “yes please”, “thank you” and “do you speak English?”. But in some countries you really want to be able to say “no thank you, please leave me alone”. Think about the crowded market places in Asia. Knowing how to say “no thank you” in their language is going to give you a lot more peace

#3 Keep an emergency stash of money. If you lose your wallet you will still need to eat. An empty Chapstick is a fantastic secret hiding spot.

QUOTE OF THE QUARTER

“Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.” – Ray Bradbury
